If you want to make the most of your trip from Sydney to Adelaide take your time and take a tour –
Day 1 – Great Dividing Range & Murrumbidgee River
Depart from Sydney travelling via Canberra, over the Great Dividing Range to Wagga Wagga and on to Hay on the edge of the Murrumbidgee River.
Day 2 – Lake Mungo
Visit the Shearers Hall of Fame in Hay and learn of the rich life in the wool industry. Enjoy the sunset over Lake Mungo and relax with the local kangaroos.
Mungo National Park
Mungo National Park is a part of the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Area, a chain of dried-out lakes, crinkled, fluted outcrops, shifting sand and a landscape that changes colour through the day.
Day 3 – The Darling River
Head for Menindee lake via Pooncarie, following the Darling River onto Kinchega National Park. Then Broken Hill for local sites, art centres and Silverton at sunset.
Day 4 – View of Flinders Ranges
Depart Broken Hill to visit the Sculptures in the Desert display before crossing into South Australia via historic Burra and Peterborough. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Flinders Ranges before an optional sunset scenic flight over Wilpena Pound.
Day 5 – Barossa Valley
Take an optional early morning flight or enjoy a walk in Wilpena Pound with the magnificent River Red Gums and Flinders Ranges. Visit stunning Aboriginal rock art then to Barossa Valley for wine tasting.
Day 6- Beltana, Parachilna and Brachina
Travel on via spectacular mountain scenery adjacent the Flinders Ranges. Visit historic Beltana, Parachilna and Brachina before our cosy overnight stop at Leigh Creek.
Day 7 – Lake Eyre National Park
Arrive in Marree and check out the ancient mosque and Ghan railway history then a scenic flight over Lake Eyre and visit a permanent water hole by Muloorina Station. Overnight to Marree and a few yarns around the campfire.
Day 8 – Brachina Gorge & Adelaide Wineries
View the giant Leigh Creek coal mine and travel in the foothills of the Flinders Ranges via old Ghan railway towns. Visit Brachina Gorge and picturesque mountain landscapes then onto Adelaide.
